The Southside Melbourne Flyers are excited to announce that Izzy Wightman has been signed as a Development Player for the 2025/26 WNBL season, following an impressive year as a train-on player. Her promotion rewards her dedication, work ethic, and growth within the Flyers program, where she trained alongside the team and learned from experienced WNBL players and coaches.

Izzy’s basketball journey began at age five with the Eltham Wildcats and progressed through representative levels, including four years with Victoria Metro at National Championships. She has also attended two Australian development camps and gained senior experience in the NBL1, playing for the Melbourne Tigers and most recently the Keilor Thunder.

Known for her athleticism, versatility, and impact on both ends of the floor, Wightman’s elevation reflects the Flyers’ commitment to nurturing local talent and providing pathways for emerging players to reach the top level.

Speaking about her elevation to a developmet player Izzy said:

“I’m super excited to be promoted from a training player to a development player for the WNBL 2025/26 season.

It unlocks so much more for me within the Flyers program, and I am grateful to be able to build on my hard work from last season and continue to grow my game within the Flyers system.”

Speaking on Wightman’s journey from train-on player to development player, Head Coach Kristi Harrower said she’s been impressed with her progress and commitment:

“Izzy has earned a well-deserved promotion from training player to development player for this season.

Over the offseason, I’ve worked closely with her during NBL1 and have been impressed by the significant progress she’s made in just six months.

She’s a player who can consistently knock down three-pointers and apply real pressure on opponents in transition.

While she’s still working on becoming more physical on defense, I’ve already seen solid improvement in that area.

Izzy’s work ethic is outstanding; she’s committed to getting better every single day.

I firmly believe she has the talent and determination to take her game to the next level.”

The Flyers are excited to see Izzy’s continued growth and the impact she will bring to the team throughout the season.
