Sakima Walker Joins Southside Melbourne Flyers
Southside Melbourne Flyers have signed exciting American centre Sakima Walker for the upcoming WNBL season, adding size, athleticism and championship pedigree to the frontcourt.
The 196cm centre arrives in Melbourne following a standout collegiate career in the US. Walker began at South Carolina, where she was part of the2024 NCAA Championship-winning team, before transferring to California for her final season.
At Cal, Walker averaged 11.9 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game, while shooting 55.9 per cent from the field. She also gained professional experience with the Minnesota Lynx during the 2026 WNBA pre-season and arrives in Melbourne as one of the most exciting young front court talents to emerge from the UnitedStates.
Flyers Head Coach Sam Mackinnon said Walker’s competitiveness and energy will make her an exciting addition.
“Sakima is a player who we believe Flyers fans are going to be incredibly excited to watch. She brings size, athleticism and a real physical presence, but what really stood out to us was her competitiveness and her desire to keep getting better.”
Walker is excited to begin her professional career in Melbourne.

With NCAA championship experience, professional exposure and plenty of upside, Walker is ready to make her mark in Melbourne and bring plenty of energy to the Flyers’ WNBL campaign.
