The Southside Melbourne Flyers are excited to announce the signing of Makenna Marisa for the upcoming 2025/26 WNBL season.

A dynamic guard from the United States, Marisa brings an explosive scoring ability and play making flair that will add another dimension to the Flyers this season. Known for her quick first step, sharp shooting, and relentless competitiveness, she’s set to make an immediate impact in her debut WNBL season.

Marisa enjoyed a standout college career at Penn State University, where she cemented herself as one of the program’s most consistent scorers. Averaging double figures across multiple seasons, she showcased her versatility as both a creator and a finisher, while her leadership on and off the court made her a fan favourite.

She most recently played for David Kornel Basketball Academy in Hungary’s top-tier NB I/A Women’s Division where she quickly emerged as one of the leading figures on the young squad. Makenna averaged 16.7 points per game, 5 rebounds per game, and 3.8 assists per game, and elevated her game even further in the playoffs averaging 23.7 points per game, 5.7 rebounds per game,a nd 3.2 assists per game.

In a standout performance against Gyor, Marisa had 17-points in the first half, including four made three-pointers, showcasing her scoring instincts.

Speaking on her signing and moving to a new city Makenna said:

“I decided to sign with the Flyers because I’ve heard amazing things about the program and the city of Melbourne, and I wanted to play for a successful program with talented players.

I am excited to meet new people and explore the city of Melbourne and experience the culture.

I am also really looking forward to skipping the cold weather in the states and extending my summer in Australia.”

Head Coach Kristi Harrower is eager for the arrival of Makenna in Melbourne this week and believes her arrival will have a positive impact on the team and the WNBL:

“Makenna is a player with tremendous potential to make a significant impact in this league.

After an outstanding college career and a strong debut professional season in Hungary last year, we have high expectations for her continued growth and success.

She possesses the ability to ignite the game with her scoring and is exceptionally quick in transition.

Beyond her skills, we are confident that her personality and style of play will blend seamlessly with our team’s chemistry.”

Makenna arrives in Melbourne carrying the momentum of a dominant pro debut in Europe, not just in scoring, but as an all-around playmaker and leader. Her ability to step up in big moments, her confidence from deep range, and her resilience in a physical league position her as a high-impact signing for the Flyers.

With the addition of Marisa, the Flyers continue to build a roster stacked with talent, experience, and hunger for success heading into the new season. The Flyers Family can look forward to seeing Makenna in action when we hit the court for the highly anticipated WNBL Season Opener at John Cain Arena on Saturday, 18 October.
