The countdown to the 2026/27 WNBL season is officially on, with the Southside Melbourne Flyers unveiling a fixture that promises an exciting start and plenty of opportunities for fans to get behind the team.
Our Flyers squad will begin their campaign our on home court ,at the State Basketball Centre, where one of the league's most passionate fan bases will once again create a formidable atmosphere. The opening month shapes as a crucial one, with three of the club's first four games to be played at home, giving the Flyers the chance to build early momentum in front of our fans.
The club is also finalising arrangements for three additional home games to be played at alternate venues, allowing even more fans across Victoria the opportunity to experience Flyers basketball live.
Head Coach Sam Mackinnon is looking forward to seeing his new-look squad take the floor, confident the balance of youth and experience will produce an entertaining style of basketball.
"We're excited to open the season at home, with three out of our first four games! We have an exciting group with a blend of youth and experience that will play an exciting brand of basketball that Flyers fans will be proud of."
The new season will also mark the return of one of the club's most popular players, with Carley Ernst set to pull on the Flyers jersey again following the birth of her second child.
After spending time away from the court with her growing family, Ernst is eager to reconnect with teammates and supporters as she prepares for another WNBL campaign.
"I'm incredibly excited to be back with the Flyers after welcoming our second baby. It's been a special time for our family, and I can't wait to get back on the court, reconnect with our fans, and be part of what promises to be an exciting season for this group."
